DISCUSSION:

  1. Some of our compatriots go abroad and after having stayed in a foreign country, they will come back to the Philippines already affected by foreign influences in manner of thinking, dressing, and speaking. Do you know any person who has acquired such foreign traits? What do you think of him/her?                                                                                   Yes, I believe that he has actually a colonial mentality, in such a way that he entirely changed his way of dressing, speaking and everything in his aspects. He was too proud for having this and that. He keeps on comparing Philippines from the country he stayed for about four years. We thought that he was still the same person we knew but I guess were wrong.
  2. "The New Yorker in Tondo", a satire that has perennial relevance in the Philippine society, has been hilariously staged and enjoyed inside universities, colleges and even high school campuses and in professional and semi-professional theaters. What do you mean by adaptation which National Artist Daisy Hontiveros... Avellana had done with Marcelino Agana Jr. play?                                                                                          She justify that "what you are is what you are". She defended that no matter how many countries will influence us in terms of living still she will remain the same and proud of being Filipino. The true happiness comes if you will true to your self and stop pretending. Although we appreciate the foreign countries still there should be a limitation. There is no place like Philippines. Philippines, The Orient Pearl of Seas, our very own. Filipino, very kind hospitable and loving. And I am proud to shout who I am. I am Joanne Ocliaman Suan proud to be "Pinoy".
  3. Kikay meets her moment of enlightenment and shows her true color, she discovers her real self again under the Tondo sky which she had hated earlier and from which she was trying to escape. This is true to the nationalistic tone of the play which teaches love for one's native land and native ways despite the laughter that it provokes. Do you think that Kikay is sincere when she decides to forget her acquired ways and accept her old friends once again?                                                                                                                For my own understanding, Kikay is sincere when she decides to forget her acquired ways and accept her old friends once again. As an evidence, she says that:"Kikay: Yes , Tony... That was Francesca saying all those silly things. But Francesca exists no more, Tony no more. The girl standing before you is Kikay.
     Tony: In that silly dress?
Kikay: Oh, this is just the gift-wrapping. But deep down inside me  I'm just a Tondo girl in love with a Tondo boy."
  4. Read some books and magazines articles about New York, USA. What are some of it's features that attract foreigners?                                                                                              I already read books and magazines, but mostly I read an extravagant offers about going to foreign countries in magazines like Advance news magazines. There is an article entitled "Management and Administration", it offers an excellent work environment, great salary and benefits. This offers are a kind of attractive especially to those people whose looking for a big income for them to help their families and have a savings for personal use. There is also an offer that in New York you will experience an environment that nurtures your career as well as residents lives. They will provide support and benefits.
